Just a Babyland Rag Doll BODY Pattern PDF E-Pattern

Update: This pattern is not presently for sale as I am updating it.

In 2008, I purchased an antique rag doll which is actually a 30” Babyland Rag who had lost her face covering. Five years later, I have finally completed the pattern for the body of this doll. For various reasons, I have decided to offer the pattern for the body only.

This pattern I drafted is true to the original antique Babyland Rag doll I once owned. Included in this pattern are patterns for a  30” doll body and a 14” doll body.

NOTE:  There are written instructions for making the doll body pattern, but there are no instructions for adding the additional face, and no patterns for clothing. The 30” pattern creates a very large doll which can wear children’s clothing. If you want to attempt adding a Babyland Rag face shape, I have shown images in this post on MAIDA Today about how the faces are added to the flat faced doll.

This PDF electronic pattern includes BOTH a 14 inch doll body pattern and a 30" doll body pattern pieces, and written instructions for making the doll body.  It's a fairly simple rag doll pattern.  If you have sewing experience, you can make this doll body fairly easily.

This pattern is offered to MAIDA Dolls Group members in the year 2015.  If you'd like the pattern, join MAIDA Dolls Group.

SOLD Vintage Folk Art Cloth Doll - Lancaster, PA

I purchased this cloth doll on Ebay many years ago, described then as from Lancaster, PA.  I don't know.   It appears that the hair is "painted on" using india ink.  It "sits" on a shaped body.

SOLD

The face and hair looks like it was drawn on
with some kind of ink which has browned with age.

I like the head shape.

SOLD Primitive Folk Art Cloth Doll

SOLD

I bought this homemade cloth to study from Edyth O'Neill.   I bought her because the hands and the north-south feet are charming.  Her almost faceless concentration is appealing.  Those piercing penciled dot eyes!  This doll is made with a kind of twill flannel fabric.  She is about 21" tall.   She is sold as is, with no return.

The hands especially appeal to me with their folky-ness.

Please note the body is stained and repaired.  No odors. See the left arm in particular has repairs.  The right arm needs resewing at one spot.  I will leave that to the buyer.  She is loosely stuffed with cotton.

The triangular points is an interesting design.

Note wear at fingers.

A doll similar to this recently sold on Ebay for over $700.

SOLD Bruckner Cloth 1901 Topsy - Turvy Doll

Bruckner copyright 1901 Topsy Turvy Doll
SOLD!
Sold as is with no returns.
This doll is 110 years old.  Of course she wears some of her 100+ years - there is staining and some foxing. From top of head to top of head she measures 12 inches tall.   Her (their) clothing is pinned on the body.  One of the arms of the black doll is unstuffed or has been repaired.  Hard to tell.   The nose of the black face is depressed somewhat.   Please look at all the pictures before you purchase.  I've taken a lot of pictures to help you understand the doll.   Please ask any questions you may have.

SOLD Antique Papier Mache Doll Body

SOLD!

This head and body came together in the box to me, but I'm not sure they have always been together.  The head looks a bit large for the body to me.   Somehow has repainted the head, and I bought her because to repaint her myself.  But have decided I'm going to focus my time on my own folk art doll creations.   I'm cleaning house, and trying to give myself a little more elbow room.

The antique papier mache head measures 7" tall and has been repainted at some time in her life.

The body measures about 19" from the top of the shoulder to the toe.  It has repairs at the ankles, replaced arms not original to the body, and staining.  Please view the pictures.

Note there is wear on both toes and ankles.

SOLD Carved Wooden Peg Jointed Doll

SOLD!

This guy reminds me a bit of some mechanics I knew back in the early 60's with the matching pants and shirt.  I bet he once had a hat....maybe a cowboy hat?   I know nothing about this doll.  He is not marked on his back.  He can stand on his two feet.  :-)  If you have any guesses about who made this doll, or his vintage.  I'm guessing 30's to 60's.  The cloth is cotton and the belt is a braided trim which is not elastic.  The "tie" is made of ribbon and may be melting a bit - so not sure if silk or rayon.   I've shared some pictures to help out.
